Chapter Five: My Heart Has Bloomed is a poem Clara wrote about her love for Howard Preston. Clara met Howard in the fall, during Ali’s “Rumble in the Jungle” in Kinshasa, Zaire, when Howard’s family moved from the city to the countryside, transferring from Fairfield to Bryson High. It was love at first sight.
